Reiki, hands-on and distance healing through the wisdom and training brought to us by Mikao Usui in 1922 has grown into a healing modality available to everyone. Receiving a Reiki attunement is a simple, yet sacred practice through which energy flows from the Divine, through the capable, intentional hands of the Reiki Master, to the willing recipient. In many ways, the process is very simple. Knowing what to do, which Reiki symbols to use, where, how, and when, complete the attunement process.
Is that all there is to doing Reiki?
Not really. The attunement process – becoming attuned to any level of Reiki, including Reiki Master – just opens the door for energy to flow. The next steps involve training and developing sensitivity to the feel of energy as well as intuitive guidance on how to use Reiki. These sensitivities and skills come with practice and mentoring, feedback on technique, and guidance on a vast number of situations new students may encounter.
What’s the difference between Reiki Master and Reiki Master Teacher?
Reiki Master is an intermediate level of training that gives the practitioner three Reiki symbols and the ability to perform Reiki attunements as well as healing, and self-attunements. Becoming attuned as Reiki Master is indeed an important step displaying a practitioner’s commitment to the practice and lifestyle of spiritual healing. Reiki Master is not and end, but rather a new beginning. Newly attuned Reiki Masters move into the world with new confidence and new direction, or sense of purpose. It’s truly wonderful!
Reiki Master Teacher is an art that has been vastly under-valued and overlooked as a necessary part of bringing more competent Reiki students into the world. Why? Learning how to DO Reiki is different from learning how to TEACH Reiki. Teaching involves a different set of skills; ways to demonstrate techniques, writing curriculum to meet the growing need for integrative skills, spiritual mentoring, coaching skills, personal energetic hygiene, and an understanding of the laws surrounding energy healing modalities are all a part of Reiki Master Teaching know-how.
