Get Tuned In and Turned On Sound Healing

Exploring the Energy and Possibilities of Sound Healing

With Sun at my occiput, and Moon on my third eye, pure tone frequencies traveled throughout my head, vibrating my skull, and creating an invisible-but-strongly-sensed feeling in the middle of my brain. "I'm in," I said! Our instructor gracefully moved from one student to the next, offering the experience of weighted tuning forks applied directly to the body, in this case our heads. It was a sensation I'll never forget as my mind expanded seemingly into an alternate dimension.

I was IN for the entire journey of incorporating sound frequencies into my healing practice. With focused instruction beginning with energy tuners (unweighted tuning forks) my instruments became my teachers . . . and this article is about how you can become sensitive to the subtleties of how sound affects change in the energy field, and informs you, the practitioner, of how to choose frequencies and where to apply them to the body. The forks not only teach you, they become an extension of your intuitive abilities to facilitate healing.

Sound reaches your ears and influences your body's physiology. Research has shown that music interventions can affect heart rate, stress responses, and other measurable aspects of nervous system activity. Sound is vibration, and your body responds to it in fascinating ways.

What happens when the sound of an instrument changes as you move it around someone's body? And what might happen when you use sound and vibration to stimulate the body's energy?

That's where sound healing gets really interesting!

Tuning In

I admit I raced through the initial training to become certified. It wasn't until I slowed down that I noticed what the forks were actually doing. While my steady hand held the vibrating instrument above my client's energy field, her heart demanded more. The tuning fork spun, clockwise, then counterclockwise, then repeating the rhythm, almost endlessly, refusing to move on to another area.

I was fascinated and eager to understand what I was observing! My teacher took it all in stride. "Oh, that's deeper learning in the next phase," he remarked. What I understood much later was that certain frequencies work with energy in the body in almost a prescriptive way. Where one frequency makes a connection—and a correction—another might not have any visible, audible, or emotional, effect at all.

As I continued exploring vibrational sound healing, I became more attentive to what I was hearing and observing. The instruments encouraged me to listen, pay attention, and recognize subtle changes. Each experience inspired new questions and discoveries.

Once I discovered what and how the tuning forks were instructing me, I developed a sense of wanting to explore custom frequencies. In fact, I ordered specific frequencies from my manufacturer of highest quality aluminum tuning forks for healing, not fully understanding why I wanted them, or how I was going to use them. They were longer energy tuners than I was accustomed to working with. Their tones were deeply resonating . . . and there they sat for more than a year, without work (unemployed tuning forks!) until one of my Reiki Master students offered to buy them from me. As soon as they left the house I knew exactly how to work with them.

I called up my student, and gave her instructions over the phone. "Do this. Now do that," I guided, as she deliberately followed each step. Pain in her foot released almost immediately, to both our surprise—and yet we were not surprised at all! Specific sound frequencies with intention work beautifully in harmony with the body to release and allow healing to happen.

These two new energy tuners became the foundation of a protocol I introduced at a healing retreat the following September through the Wellness Universe. Each set of partners in the session had a set of tuning forks with which to work, including the two new frequencies I call The Wounded Healer, and the complementary set called Magic & Miracles.

Without prior experience, and only following my instructions (as I did over the phone initially to my student), everyone in the room discovered their own abilities and sensitivities, as well as their "wounds", which was the focus of that particular training.

Turning On

Without a doubt, sound healing has activated something in me that was perhaps dormant, or at least asleep. Everything vibrates, and I believe we stagnate our energies and disrupt harmonious frequencies just by living our lives. Eating processed foods, connecting endlessly to cell phones and computers, wearing shoes, living in a home with 5G, electrical wires in the walls, and environmentally exposed to heavy metals and toxins that accumulate in body tissues—all of these affect us in ways that we may never know or understand. But when we connect to pure tone frequencies we can begin to become aware of imbalances, and then activate—or turn on—higher vibrations to allow for balance and harmony.

Listening, Observing, and Implementing

By now you must know that I'm a big believer in vibrational tools such as tuning forks, but also crystals, plant essences, nature, shamanic practices and drumming. Yes! Even the drumbeat of your own heart can bring you quietly into meditation, while the louder, intense drumming of a physical drum can also be profound! Recently, I and my students had an experience during a Reiki class that brought these ideas of listening, observing, and implementing together beautifully.

One of my students was lying on the healing table while I steadily beat a drum over his body. Though drumming isn't traditionally a Reiki practice, my shamanic Reiki class integrates such practices to open the door wider for student experiences. I maintained a consistent rhythm and volume as I moved from one side to the other, guided by the clarity of the drumming sound emitted from the tympanum.

As I moved and drummed, the sound changed noticeably. Over one side of his body, the drum sounded clear and resonant. Over the other, the sound became muffled, almost deadened. I continued drumming over the area where the sound had changed, listening as the muffled quality gradually disappeared and the drum became clear again.

Then my student shared something interesting. During the drumming, he'd experienced pain in his hip, followed by a sudden release. The timing seemed to coincide with the change I'd heard in the drum.

Was the sound reflecting a change in his energy? Did the vibrations contribute to what he experienced? I was fascinated by the connection between what I observed and what he experienced!

I had tuned in to a change in sound and continued working with the vibration. My student experienced a change of his own. Perhaps we also witnessed an activation, or turning on, of his energies in order to release and heal.

That's the kind of experience that encourages you to keep exploring what's possible.

When Learning Becomes an Experience

Learning to activate a tuning fork, use a drum, or incorporate sound into a Reiki session gives you foundational skills. Through practice, you develop greater confidence, sensitivity, and awareness. Each experience offers opportunities to discover how sound and vibration interact with the healing process.

Perhaps you're learning Reiki and want to explore how sound can complement your practice. Maybe you're already working with tuning forks or singing bowls and would like to develop greater sensitivity to what you're observing. Or perhaps you're curious about how sound healing might become part of your own wellness experience.

Your curiosity opens the door to exploration.

During my Reiki classes and Reiki Circle Gatherings at Second Nature Healing®, students have opportunities to practice what they've learned, receive healing work, and experience complementary tools such as drums, tuning forks, crystals, plant essences, and shamanic practices. I include working with the medicine Wheel as a foundation for all my classes. We share observations, ask questions, and learn from one another.

These spontaneous discoveries add another dimension to the learning experience. They encourage observation, participation, and curiosity.

Some of the most valuable lessons emerge through experience.

And each experience can deepen your awareness, strengthen your confidence, and inspire you to explore something new.

Your Next Step: Tune In, Turn On, and Explore!

What has sparked your curiosity? Perhaps you're ready to experience sound healing for yourself, learn to work with tuning forks, or expand the healing skills you already have. At Second Nature Healing®, you can choose the path that fits your interests and where you want to grow.

You can begin with curiosity, build your skills through experience, and continue discovering new possibilities as your journey unfolds.

Tune In. Turn On. Sound Healing. What's Possible?

Create balance so you can shine.
