Shamanic Sound Healing
Ancient sound practices, tuning forks, and vibrational healing for restoring balance in the body and energy field.
Shamanic sound healing sits at the intersection of ancient healing wisdom and modern vibrational therapy. In my work with clients, sound, Reiki, crystals, and plant essences as well as other healing frequencies are used as part of an integrative approach to help the body release stress patterns and restore balance. Long before modern medicine, traditional healers understood that vibration could shift the body out of imbalance and back toward harmony. Drums, rattles, chanting, and tonal instruments were used to move energy, calm the nervous system, and reconnect people with the rhythms of nature. Today weāre rediscovering how powerful sound really is.
In my work, I blend these traditional principles with modern sound therapy tools like tuning forks. The result is a form of healing thatās both ancient and surprisingly precise. Sound doesnāt force healing. It simply reminds the body how to return to balance.
How Sound Affects the Body
Everything in the body vibrates. Our organs, tissues, and cells carry their own natural rhythms. When stress, toxicity, trauma, or illness disrupt those rhythms, the body can lose its sense of coherence. Sound works in multiple ways. It creates dissonance to vibrate out unwelcome frequencies, and it introduces stable vibration back into the system.
When the body encounters a clear frequency, it often begins to reorganize itself around that signal. People sometimes describe this as feeling like something inside them is "settling" or recalibrating.
Sound healing can support:
- calming the nervous system
- releasing energetic congestion
- restoring internal rhythm
- deep relaxation
- emotional release
Many people feel an immediate shift, while others notice changes unfolding gradually after a session.
Ancient Sound Practices in Shamanic Traditions
In many shamanic traditions, sound is used as a bridge between worlds. Rhythm and tone help shift consciousness and open pathways for healing. The medicine drum, chanting, rattles, and tonal instruments have all been used to move energy and restore harmony within a person and their environment. These practices remind us that healing isnāt only physical. It involves the energetic, emotional, and spiritual layers of our lives as well.
Modern sound tools donāt replace those traditions ā they simply give us additional ways to work with the same principles.
Tuning Forks and Vibrational Healing
Types of sound healing tools I work with most often are tuning forks ā both energy tuners and weighted tuners. When a tuning fork is activated, it produces a clear, stable frequency. That vibration can be applied near the body or within the energy field, allowing the frequency to interact with the bodyās natural rhythms.
Different forks carry different frequencies. Some are designed to calm the nervous system. Others support energetic alignment or deeper energetic clearing. Sound creates a foundation for clearing and healing. In conjunction with other Integrative Healing techniques and tools I implement, sound becomes complementary to the process of dissipating unwanted frequencies and restoring balance to the body and its energy field.
These tools allow sound healing to become incredibly focused and intentional. If you're curious about the forks used in sound healing, you can explore them here:
Ways to Experience Shamanic Sound Healing
Private Healing Sessions
Sound therapy can be integrated with energy work and detox-based wellness support to help the body settle and reorganize. My clients feel the difference immediately.
"I feel like I had a massage under water."
Of course, the experience is unique for each person. Choosing my tools before a client comes in for a session always feels exactly right for the release, support, and integration that person needs.
Workshops and Retreats
If you feel called to learn sound healing practices for yourself or others, workshops offer hands-on experience with tuning forks and vibrational healing methods. I'm especially delighted to offer my Applied Integrative Healing Workshop series monthly throughout 2026 in celebration of 20 years in my healing business.
Healing Tools
I highly encourage people to have their own healing tools at home. They are, in my opinion "first" aid to disharmony in the body. Tuning forks are simple, powerful instruments that can support relaxation, energy balance, and meditation practices. Weighted tuning forks applied to acupressure points, along the spine, bottoms of feet, and even on the face can provide profound relief and healing.
Returning to Harmony
One of the most beautiful things about sound healing is that it creates the conditions where the body remembers what balance feels like. When the nervous system relaxes and the bodyās natural rhythms return, healing often begins to unfold in ways that feel surprisingly natural.
