Be Careful of Using Alternative Healing in a Restrictive World
Sometimes opportunities come with strings. Other times they come with heavy cords. I call them limitations. You might see them as rules, regulations, or mandates. In any case, I learned a long time ago how it feels to be limited with hands tied and mouth shut, forbidden to speak what I believe to be true. So, I shut the door on limitations. Can I share a story with you? I'll offer tips on how you can also shut the door on limitations.
Years ago, when I first became certified in Reiki, I joined a local association which was really great! I loved connecting to like-minded people and Reiki practitioners in the community - in the WILD, so to speak. We gathered at local businesses that had space set up so we could offer Reiki for free or donation. Setting up massage (Reiki) tables at grocery stores that had an upstairs room attracted a long line of people in need of energy healing. These were people seeking alternative healing for stress relief, pain, and even cancer.
We developed an alliance with a cancer treatment center at a local hospital. I scheduled twice weekly visits to the treatment center to offer Reiki to anyone hooked up to chemotherapy while I was there. Imagine a room full of folks - all ages and situations - attached to poison dripping into their systems.
It was energetically difficult, and a little stressful for me to do this sort of work, but the reason I followed through was because I had personal experience watching my mother go through cancer treatment when I was in my twenties. She had only me by her side, holding her hand. I wasn't trained in energy healing, but the contact seemed to be helpful through her suffering. Offering Reiki to strangers who were experiencing chemotherapy seemed like an extension of helping her.
I enjoyed the work I was doing except for one thing. As my intuitive abilities became sharper, I was under no circumstance allowed to share intuitive messages with people receiving Reiki. As long as I continued to work with people through that organization, I was limited to do and say what was authorized and accepted as Reiki.
My Reiki practice since then has developed into a highly intuitive (and accurate) version of Integrative Healing. I incorporate sound with tuning forks, medicinal aromatherapy, crystals, and ceremonial, shamanic aspects to every session. It feels right, expansive, and very healing to me and everyone receiving this amazing, intelligent energy. I also offer blessings with the products I've chosen to work with - energy entities of high vibrational status on their own! These products are based in science and necessary for foundational healing.
Most recently, I had to shut yet another door. In offering a special Reiki (short version) to clients in need through another organization, I was not allowed, once again, to fully express my beliefs. I was denied participation unless I complied to their rules. "No products," I was told. "No intuition, " I was told. "No sound healing," I was told. It didn't feel right, so I shut the door on that scenario, and opened my mind to what the Universe was showing me.
